About me

22 years Violin Making

Since 2004

Zvi Dori, born in Israel, established his own violin-making workshop in Hanover in 2004.

He began his training as a violin maker in 1995 with H.R. Knobel in Celle. From that point onwards, he pursued his passion of recreating string instruments in the fine, old Italian style.

With a keen sense, he uncovered some of the “secrets” of this outstanding art from the 17th and 18th centuries. After completing his journeyman’s examination in Mittenwald in 1998, he continued to work until 2003 in renowned workshops in Münster, Hamburg, and Hanover.

There, he immersed himself extensively in the repair, restoration, and construction of all kinds of string instruments.

He acquired skill and new knowledge, which in turn flowed into the creation of new string instruments. In his work with historical string instruments, he placed particular focus on Baroque instruments. In 2003, the violin maker passed his master craftsman examination in Hamburg.

With his violas, he has made a name for himself at numerous exhibitions, festivals, and competitions. His violins and cellos are highly popular with soloists, orchestra musicians, and music students both at home and abroad.

For his newly crafted instruments, he uses models from old Italian masters such as Andrea Guarneri, del Gesu, Stradivari, Rugeri, or Gofriller as his templates.
